The New Jersey Center for Public Health Preparedness at UMDNJ announces the Class of 2007 Public Health Leadership Initiative for Emergency Response (PHLIER). This leadership development program is designed for mid-career health officers, public health administrators, aspiring governmental public health leaders, law enforcement, hospital administrators, and other public health professionals who aspire to become health department executives.
The goals of PHLIER are to foster the next generation of public health leaders, promote excellence in leadership, and explore responses to public heath emergencies.
PHLIER is case study based with each session focusing on a specific public health challenge. Fellows work through real-world public health dilemmas, not sit through lectures. Over the course of the PHLIER program, the topics covered will include; principles of leadership, design your health department, public health law, and case studies addressing an outbreak, avian influenza, and natural and manmade disasters. Working in groups, the PHLIER Fellows will be challenged to identify new and creative solutions.
Potential Fellows are encouraged to apply for the PHLIER class of twenty. The PHLIER Steering Committee, consisting of representatives from the NJ Health Officers Association, NJ Environmental Health Association, NJ Department of Health and Senior Services, PHLIER alumni and NJCPHP will consider all applications and make the final selection. The seminar series will begin with a two-day retreat in October and continue as monthly full-day seminars.
There is no fee for PHLIER and continuing education credits for REHS/HO, CHES, and nursing will be offered.
