Unique Threats to the Southwest

Module four will provide participants with a comprehensive knowledge of public health threats and describe the appropriate preparedness and response activities. The module will identify sensitive areas and threats unique to the Southwest and will highlight response challenges in emergency preparedness in vulnerable areas.

Learning Objectives:
After completing this module, you will be able to:
1.Describe what Hazard Analysis/Risk Assessment is and why it is important in the planning process
2.Recognize the natural threats and infectious diseases that public health agencies in Arizona and the Southwest need to address
3.Identify sensitive areas/facilities that can be targeted for terrorism (e.g. nuclear power plants, dams, etc)
4.Identify threats and barriers to rural communities
5.Understand the need for collaboration with border and tribal officials
6.Describe ways in which agencies can create partnerships
7.Identify public health partnerships that already exist throughout the state
8.Identify resources needed for specific emergencies and the agencies that may supply those resources
