Biosafety: Avoiding Lab Acquired Infections (LAI)

This course is intended for laboratorians who handle biological and microbiological samples in clinical, reference, public health, animal, research or teaching laboratories.

After completing this module, you will be able to:
• Recognize increased risks faced by laboratorians today.
• List unsafe lab practices and how they have changed over the years.
• Discuss four routes of exposure to lab-acquired infections and the lab activities associated with each.
• Summarize data about lab-acquired infections in terms of your present work environment.

There are review questions at the end of each module. These review questions will provide you with an opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills presented in each section. In addition, some modules contain practice exercises to assist you in understanding and assimilating the information.
