The Trauma Response: Preparing for and Intervening with Psychological Effects of Diaster and Terrorism

This lecture slide set was developed by Steven Berkowitz, M.D., National Center for Children Exposed to Violence at the Yale Child Study Center and Yale Center for Public Health Preparedness. Content areas include: the multiple levels (community and individual) affected by disasters that influence psychological outcomes; roles that leaders, responders and others play in mediating the trauma response; and basic psychological first aid.
Learning Objectives : At the end of this presentation, the participants will have increased their ability to:
1) Recognize the multiple levels affected by disasters that influence psychological outcomes;
2) Recognize roles that leaders, responders and others play in mediating the trauma response; and
3) Provide basic psychological first aid.
