Introduction to Chemical Agents

Dr. Lynn Goldman provides an overview of the various types of chemicals that might be used by terrorists. Part 1: Overview and History, Part 2: Types of Agents, Part 3: Prevention and Response to Chemical Terrorism.

After listening to the audio, viewing the slides, and taking this presentation’s knowledge assessment, you will be able to:
• List five common features of chemical weapons
• Describe the characteristics and provide at least one example of the following:
o Vesicants (blister agents)
o Blood agents
o Pulmonary damaging agents
o Incapacitating agents
o Nerve agents
• Describe how biological toxins work differently from chemical toxins
• Discuss both the Chemical Weapons Convention and Biological Weapons Convention, including their parameters and abilities to enforce their goals
